Well, I have thoroughly been enjoying my time here in Odessa. There is so much I love about it here. As I've previously mentioned, I'm posting work-oriented blogs on our project blog (here). However, here are some non-work related images and thoughts ;)
First, Things I Love About Slavs: Part 1:
1. That old ladies still wear traditional head scarves and use the totally impractical brooms, despite modern technology :)
2. Polite reminders of what dangers might befall you. This sign says, Beware, Evil Dog Within. Emphasis on: Evil. None of the Beware of Dog business :)
3. I love how raw things seem here, not quite so sanitised and sterile as Canada. This is a rural road in a developing area near Hope House.
4. The hair styles. Mullets are super trendy here for girls. The girls at Hope House want to cut my hair like this, which, I think, would be a very interesting experiment with my hair :)
5. The footwear
6. The Lada. Моя самая любимая машина :)
And now, just some images of life here.
Here we have one of our girls,Vika, walking home from her College to Hope House. I love this shot, though I'm not entirely sure why... :)
Here, dancing seems to be the thing to do. These girls are practising a group dance for the wedding that was on Saturday. They had a great time rehearsing :) They danced to YMCA... I'm not quite sure why... :)
A car ambling down the road past Hope House :)
I never can say what it is that I love about the slavic world, but for whatever reason, I love it :)
